Mr. & Mrs. Cayton | October 2025

Meet the couple

  • Couple’s names -Elizabeth & Matthew Cayton

  • Couple’s hometowns - Elizabeth is from Westfield & Matthew is from Noblesville. We’ve been together for 8 years and we’re high school sweethearts!

Wedding Day Basics

  • Wedding date - 10/18/2025

  • Day of the week - Saturday

  • Season - Fall

  • Ceremony start time - 4:30pm

  • Bridal party details - 4 bridesmaids & 4 groomsmen, no ring bearer, no flower girl

Weather Details

  • Temperature - In the 40’s, windy

  • Weather conditions - Sunny up until 430 and then it started torrential down pouring unfortunately. had to quickly move ceremony inside the barn. Amie was phenomenal with quickly pivoting in order to ensure we were able to have our ceremony as best as we could.

Wedding Package & Venue Use

  • How did you hear about Legacy Barn? - We found out about the Legacy Barn while we were exploring different venue options through Google. Specifically searching for barn venues is how we found the Legacy Barn!

  • Wedding package selected - We selected the 2-day package to have the venue for all day Friday and Saturday! We found this extremely helpful for bringing outside decor, items, dresses, and other things that we wanted already on site on Friday so it could be a stress free day on Saturday!

  • Ceremony location on property - For the ceremony location, we had chosen Walnut Grove, had decorated and set everything up the day before, but unfortunately due to quickly moving in severe weather we were unable to get married there and had to get married inside of the barn, but Amie tried her best to make it as decorated as possible given we only had about a half an hour to make the decision to move the ceremony inside and didn’t have any time to break down the circle tables that were already set for the reception. It was still perfect but unfortunately due to weather that specific day (thanks Indiana) we weren’t able to enjoy our original ceremony layout.

  • Dance floor - We had our Dance Floor inside of the barn. We were wanting to utilize the outside dance floor as well but because of weather were unable to.

Guest Experience

  • Estimated guest count - 80 guests

  • Style of event - Formal event

  • Seating style - Assigned seating with a seating chart

  • Any special guest experiences or activities - We had a sign in table with different activities like a custom painted photo of the venue on it that we had guests sign as the guest book, a jar of different advice that guests could fill out for us, we had wanted to use the photo booth but i think due to the weather that was not able to be used.

Design & Style

  • Overall wedding style or vibe - The style and vibe of our wedding was warm, comforting, intimate, deep fall colors (burgundy, pinks, blues, greens, golds), with rustic decor elements to highlight the barn as the main decor piece. It turned out absolutely fantastic!! The majority of the decor was already included with the venue so it helped us with deciding what we were wanting to purchase outside of what they had and how we were wanting to assemble things!

  • Color scheme - Our color scheme was dark burgundies, greens, creams, golds, with pops of pinks and dark blues along with greenery to tie everything together! Really dreamy and warm fall colors was what we were going for.

  • Décor highlights - Some of the decor highlights that we had were the centerpieces that were assembled from major decor the venue already had! Our centerpieces were lanterns set on small circles of wood, with greenery and florals surrounding it, along with the table number and some custom photo decor that my mother in law made for us to display with the center pieces! We had set up a gorgeous isle at Walnut Grove as well that we lined it with these super cute Mason Jars full of florals that were on sheppard hooks along with small bows of fabric that were attached to the sides of the chairs lining the isle that we loved. We made a custom mirror that had a cute saying on it and our names and date on it to utilize for photos as well that we loved! We also had some cute signage we utilize from the venue throughout the space. We had the arch that we were supposed to get married under decorated with gorgeous greenery and burgundy along with some pieces of pink and burgundy fabric that would’ve been gorgeous as well.

Attire

  • Wedding attire style - The wedding attire style was formal

  • Wedding party attire colors/styles - The bridesmaids were in a desert rose dark pink color and the groomsmen were in black with burgundy accents.

Food & Beverage

  • Appetizer menu - Charcuterie style appetizer menu for cocktail hour!

  • Dinner menu - For dinner we had Chicken with sun-dried tomato cream sauce or Apple bourbon pork roast along with a special puerto rican rice side along with other more home style sides! Our goal was to serve a warm and delicious meal that felt comforting while still upscale!

  • Dessert menu - For dessert we had Cake from Dreams to Reality Cakes that was absolutely delicious and cupcakes also from them! They offer premium flavors and a cake tasting that was absolutely phenomenal! Budget friendly options with quality ingredients, our cake turned out fantastic! Would not ask for a better experience or Baker.

  • Bar service type (open, cash, hybrid) - We had a hybrid bar service where we covered the drinks for the bridal party and parents, but everyone else had to pay for their own drinks!

  • Signature drinks - We did do signature drinks! My drink was a Mimosa and his drink was an Avalanche!

Vendor Team

  • Caterer - Main Occasions

  • Baker - Dreams to Reality

  • Bartender - Legacy Barn

  • Photographer - Beachy Photo & Film

  • Videographer - Beachy Photo & Film

  • DJ / Band - Extreme Sounds

  • Florist - did not have one! my family made my bouquet for me as a gift, and we utilized florals already in the venue to make the bouquets and other floral decor throughout the venue!

  • Planner or coordinator - Amie was with us for the long haul! She was our main planning support throughout the entire process and truly made such a difference in our experience! She made everything so stress free and helped us stay on our timeline throughout everything so well!

  • Hair & makeup - Hair & Makeup: I had my hairstylist of 10+ years do my hair and makeup for my big day! I was so lucky to have her present for my wedding day as she made sure everything with my hair and makeup was exactly what i wished for and wanted.

Timeline Highlights

  • First look or aisle reveal - First look or aisle reveal: We chose to do a first look before the ceremony! This way almost all of our photos were taken beforehand so that we could more enjoy our cocktail hour and take other family photos afterwards instead of trying to squeeze everything in after the ceremony! It also worked out very well for us because it did rain during our ceremony, so luckily because we did a first look, we were able to get all of our couple photos done when the weather was nice and before it got too bad to be outside! So glad we chose this.

  • Ceremony details - Vows: we chose to do private vows during our first look and then standard vows for the ceremony. Unity ceremony: We chose to do something more unique for our unity ceremony and chose to do a “Ring Warming” ceremony! This is a ceremony where our rings were passed around to specific rows or tables of family and this is a time that those family members can hold our rings and place blessings among them before we got married. We loved doing this as it allowed for our guests to get involved in the ceremony and added another intimate touch to everything.

  • Special dances or performances - Dances: we chose to do a first dance, father daughter dance, mother son dance, and the anniversary dance to include as much of our guests in our big day as we could and also to encourage everyone to come onto the dance floor and feel like a part of our day!

  • Speeches or toasts - We allowed only specific family members do speeches and toasts! We had the groom, best man, maid of honor, and father of the bride all do speeches in order to know who was speaking and in order to keep them important and meaningful for the big day. We felt this worked very well in adding more emotion and meaning to our day, and provided for a lot of memories to be made due to these speeches and toasts.

  • Send off activity - Our photographer and videographer advised us against doing a “faux send off” because from their previous experiences they thought that something like this would make the guests leave prematurely, so we opted against a send off activity all together! If we would’ve done one, we would’ve done a sparkler exit!

Favorite Moments

  • Couple’s favorite moments of the day - First look before ceremony. Couples and bridal party photos done before ceremony. Honestly majority of all photos done beforehand made for the day to flow A LOT more smoothly and less stressful. Our first dance. Mother son dance. Father daughter dance. Our cake cutting. Speeches and hearing what the people we loved most had to say about us and any advice they had for us. The first moments after we said “I Do” when it truly hit us that we were finally married! Walking down the aisle and seeing everyone’s eyes on me, everyone smiling, everyone looking so happy FOR US, and seeing my soon to be husband looking right at me smiling and just everyone and everything being so happy and emotional in the best way!

  • Guest reactions or standout moments - Guest reactions to my dress as I walked down the aisle, hearing their reactions was heartwarming! Guest reactions to our first dance. We did a mild choreography that we practiced and at the end of the song my husband lifted me up and twirled me and that got a lot of good reactions! Definitely a memorable moment for the both of us. There were so many memorable details it’s impossible to mention just one! Definitely feel like those first moments after we were married, just holding each other and truly realizing that we were finally married, was a very impactful and emotional moment for the both of us.

Advice & Reflections

  • Best advice for future couples - Some advice that we have is to stay true to what you want as a couple! Some decisions will be difficult to make or overwhelming, or you will have external opinions that may make you want to stray from what you and your fiancé wish for, so just stick to that! In the end it will all come together perfectly and DO NOT STRESS! It was difficult for us to not get all tied up in small decisions, but in the end it will come together and be the most perfect day of all.  Do what you want to do regardless of what anyone else says or does :).

  • One thing that made the day feel “perfect” - Oh gosh, this one is a hard one! One thing that made the day feel perfect was how much support we had on the actual day from the Legacy Barn team and the rest of our vendors day of. Amie allowed us to be as stress free as possible on our day, and communicated to us when we were needing to pivot with certain things (like the change in weather) and let us know when other vendors were arriving to ease our worries about all of the logistics so we could ENJOY OUR DAY!! We truly felt all of the love on our wedding day from everyone that was there FOR US, and it brings tears to my eyes thinking about all of the care and attention they gave to us whenever we had questions or concerns or stresses. Having everyone that you love and that loves you all in the same room for one big day was definitely what made everything feel so perfect and finally being able to be husband and wife at the end of the day was truly so magical. The barn, the decor, the food, the music, everything was absolutely perfect and truly expressed us as a couple and our love!! I could go on forever!

  • What they loved most about the venue - We had always dreamed of a barn wedding and that was exactly what we got! The barn itself was so spacious, and could house even more guests than we had! The way the seating was for the reception with the circular tables allowed for us to go into the middle of the barn and everyone had a good view of everything that was going on from wherever they were sat! The lights and fabric that were already up in the barn added such a magical and dreamy feeling to the atmosphere and truly made our day feel magical. The colors throughout the barn and the design of the barn itself added to our rustic, magical, warm, and dreamy vibe that we were going for for our day. There were also fantastic heaters that the barn had so that you could not tell how rainy it was on our day when you were inside of the barn, and it was extremely comfortable! We also loved that a majority of all of our decor was already presented in the venue! That helped us with not having to purchase decor and only purchase custom items that we felt we wanted to make (the mirror) but not stressed about needing to make decor purchases! Along with the venue, having Amie and the rest of the Legacy Barn team so present throughout the entire process from the moment we booked with them to the day of the wedding truly made everything so perfect. I would do everything all over again and get married at the Legacy Barn all over again because of how beautiful our experience was. We are truly so grateful for the Legacy Barn team and would recommend the Legacy Barn for any couple wanting a gorgeous barn wedding! This is the place to go! Along with the location of the venue, there were hotels and accommodations so close to the venue because the majority of my family were flying out of state, so there were a lot of options for hotel blocks as well as restaurants and other things to do around the venue that made the location of the barn perfect! We love the Legacy Barn! <3
